		<description>The changing human/animal bond is such an interesting area because it really is all about our own human nature--how we view and treat food animals, our concern for wildlife and fragile ecosystems, how we employ lab animals in important biomedical
research as well as the close relationship we develop with our own dogs, cats, horses, and other animals we view as companions.
 
Current images from the Gulf coast of stricken wildlife, the response to yesterday&#039;s passage of Susie&#039;s Law concerning NC animal abuse, the previous national interest in Barbaro and the death of the Florida polo ponies ...all can become very emotional shared experiences for many people. 

There are only 28 Colleges of Veterinary Medicine in the nation (141 human medicine schools) and NC State&#039;s is among the top five and highly regarded for its work in advancing the health and well-being of people and animals.
